Biography

Kay Duffy is a "wet and loose" watercolor artist. Her paintings are bright and impressionistic. She uses bold colors, broad strokes, and strong shapes to depict the natural landscape, flowers and trees, interesting buildings, foreign lands and exotic places. Her abstract collaged (glued) paintings are created by arranging interesting patterns of papers textured in a unique way with watercolor pigments.

Kay teaches on-going watercolor classes and collage workshops at Hakone Gardens in Saratoga. She is also available for demonstrations, critique sessions, workshops and show jurying. She is willing to discuss commissioned work.

Although Kay has been painting for over 35 years, she continues to learn and grow by studying in workshops with nationally known watermedia and collage artists. In 1993 Kay, accompanying her husband, spent 6 months in Lyon, France, studying and painting. They frequently return to Europe, where Kay gathers inspiration for her European theme paintings.

Kay is an active member of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society, Allied Artists West, and a signature member of the Society of Western Artists. She shows throughout the Bay Area and has participated annually in the prestigious Saratoga Rotary Art Show. The City of Saratoga honored this local artist by presenting one of her paintings to their Sister City, Muko-shi, Japan. Kay ‘s watercolors can be found in corporate and private collections in the U. S., Canada, Europe and Japan.
